Symptoms
Elm Admin wants an alert based on *error*severity*state* in the current SQL log file.

- SQL 2005 *:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\LOG
- MSDE\SQL 2000 *:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\LOG
Resolution
Create a File Monitor by using the Monitor Item Wizard.
In the upper left-hand part of the ELM Console, right click on Monitoring | New | Monitor Item
- Select Next, choose the File Monitor item from the dropdown list.
- Next page, File Monitor Search Definition enter the path to the SQL log files.
- Next page, File Monitor Search Definition enter the following variable *error*severity*state*
- Next page, Select the Monitor Action choose the desired monitor action, Create New Alert Entry is selected by default.
- Next page, Test the Monitor Item select the Agent that you want to run the test against and press the Start Test button.
- Next page, select the Agent Categories that you want the File Monitor assigned to.
- Next page, Schedule, setup the schedule interval and hours desired.
- Next page, Monitor Name and Description enter a Name and Description, ensure that the checkbox is checked for Enabled.
